4-5 minutes Toothpicks, Wolfman Jack, 8 Year Riff & Don't be a Dick 8 to 12 years old, that's all you need to know when looking at aged bourbons. I've had them older and like most over aged, the drams were ornery in a 'get off my lawn' way. Speaking of 8 year old bourbon, New Riff is dropping their first 8 year on March 8th.(huh) Interesting thing here - expect more as the 'newer' distilleries start releasing their first matured batches. I know, I know...today's state of bourbon has moved from what's in the bottle to what's ON the bottle. Still. There is something about a whiskey having it's own movie trailer. So these two buddies out in California (of course) decided to put together a treatment, storyboard and start production. Once the whiskey is hitting its marks and delivering its lines, each expression is wonderfully wrapped with labeling describing the story, introducing the main characters, providing a synopsis and finishes with a glorious retro-style B-Movie poster.I love a good bourbon story and even though it's MGP, the story comes through. This 8 year looks very interesting. 100 proof, but not bottle in bond. Can't wait. Here. Blanton's Isn't Worth the Brain CyclesSo yeah, don't be that person. Capitalism is a wonderful thing, however I urge people to consider carefully before buying Blanton's on secondary. I know the cost. I remember when 60 bucks was at the high-end. If you are paying over 80 bucks, you are the problem. Here. Bourbon Can be Aged too long.This article agrees with me - the sweet spot in bourbon age is between 8 and 12 years. The oak gets into the fluid after 12 years. Yeah, that's right - splinters. Okay, maybe not. But I swear whenever I have something over 12 years, I can taste the wood. Literally. Here.
