When I was in college, my chosen major required six separate programing classes; from Fortran to Lisp.  Unfortunately, not one of those acquired skills mattered in any subsequent position, occupation or job.  The value gained was made significant once I took my "Music Appreciation" elective.

Oddly enough, the cursory study of music revealed to me the parallel between classic composers and programmers of the day.

It was my first recognition of a link between art and science - Mozart was a programmer. Slide some years into the dawn of the Ai Age, and the link is now an assimilation, a convergence.  

Today, AI creates paintings, composes music, and writes literature, historically acts exclusive to human creativity. One example is the AI-generated painting "Portrait of Edmond de Belamy," which sold for $432,500 at a Christie's auction back in 2018 (Christie’s, 2018). The painting was created by a Generative Adversarial Network(GAN) which is a fancy way of saying two neural networks, a 'generator' and a 'discriminator', created the painting.  Simply put, the generator tries to produce data that can fool the discriminator, while the discriminator gets better at detecting fake data(Adversarial).  This competition continues until the generator produces data that is indistinguishable from the real data to the discriminator.

The integration of AI in art and science is in its early stages, but its potential is vast. We have already seen boundaries between disciplines vanish allowing a new field to emerge. This prescient discipline combines the creative and analytical aspects of both art and science. Through the vast iterations of adversarial training, it leverages the strengths of each discipline. The result is a system where the combined effect is greater than the sum of its parts.

What does this mean?  A moving and deeply emotional artist will apply her perspective and talent in the search for life, the explanation of string theory or clearly define the evolution of man.  One the other hand, the knowledgeable physicist will create works of art that rival DaVinci or Gauguin.

What's more, like all truly great advances, it will  become invisible - blended so deeply into our existence we no longer notice or qualify it's existence.

"Artificial intelligence", becomes simply Intelligence.
