When it comes to AI, is New York City handing out treats while the rest of the world is stuck with tricks?

Greg's Words-

As Alan Turing once said, 'We can only see a short distance ahead, but we can see plenty there that needs to be done.' New York City has taken this to heart with its newly released AI Policy, aiming to set a course for responsible AI governance that avoids the pitfalls of overregulation.
NYC just released the "The New York City Artificial Intelligence Action Plan". I expected to find a piece of content chock full of social issue driven initiatives around quelling AI bias.  I thought the approach would be academic and bureaucratic.

My dismay dissolved after reading the Policy.  Although, like every government account I am sure there is plenty of politics and 'slushiness' to go around, the Policy is clear, considered and well presented.

The DarkSide of LLMs & AI

The following example is both good and bad.  Good because in a short period of time, research can be conducted, data collected.

Bad, and I mean VERY BAD, because the content cannot be trusted to be accurate. So much so, that at this point, I'm not sure I would recommend just ANYONE utilize an LLM and submit 100% LLM created content to the web.

Over on LinkedIn, a colleague shared an article that talks about how UK Energy companies utilize chatBots and influence the customer journey.  Something we in the industry provide, share and sometimes loathe - automated helpdesks.

We think we want to talk to a human.

Office Technology: Where Your Firewall Might Just Be the Next Line of Fire.
 By Grayson Patrick Trent

In the ever-evolving landscape of cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as the new game-changer. It's a tool that's reshaping the way we think about office technology and data protection.

But as we integrate AI into our cybersecurity measures, we're faced with ethical dilemmas that are as complex as the algorithms themselves.
By 2025, the global cost of cybercrime is expected to skyrocket to $10.5 trillion annually, up from $3 trillion in 2015. This isn't just a number; it's a wake-up call for every organization that relies on office technology. According to a recent report by Microsoft, hackers are increasingly using AI and encryption to make their cyberattacks more potent. "Microsoft found that cybercriminals can subscribe to underground phishing services for $200 to $1,000 a month," as reported by the Wall Street Journal1.

Office Technology: Where AI Meets the C-Suite, and the Corner Office Gets Lonelier
By Greg Walters

In the rapidly evolving landscape of business technology, AI stands out as a game-changer. According to McKinsey, AI is significantly improving the building blocks of business strategy, freeing up valuable management time for executives. Yet, only 7% of executives are currently leveraging AI in strategy or financial planning. This statistic is more a reflection of human hesitancy than technological limitations.
The implications of AI go beyond strategy formulation to include business workflow automation. Companies like Starbucks and McDonald's are already using AI to personalize customer experiences at the point of purchase. Google Cloud's Recommendations AI offers a fully managed service that delivers personalized product recommendations at scale.
These capabilities are reducing the need for human intervention in business processes. While AI does pose some challenges, such as legal risks and skill-related requirements, Gartner suggests that the benefits far outweigh the risks.

From Reel to Real: Unveiling the Symbiotic Evolution of AI in Movies and Modern Life
By Greg Walters

"Is artificial intelligence a leap into the future or a return to the past?"

This question has intrigued filmmakers for decades, long before AI became a household term.

From the 1950s to the present day, movies centered around artificial intelligence have served as a cultural barometer, reflecting society's evolving views on this transformative technology.

But how does this cinematic portrayal compare with the real-world advancements in AI? Let's delve into this intriguing parallel.
The Dawn of AI Cinema: 1950s

In the 1950s, movies like "The Day the Earth Stood Still" and "The Invisible Boy" introduced audiences to the concept of intelligent robots. These films were less about the technology itself and more about the ethical and moral implications of creating life-like machines.

The robot Gort in "The Day the Earth Stood Still" and Robby the Robot in "The Invisible Boy" were early cinematic explorations into the realm of AI, albeit with a heavy dose of science fiction.
