"My God. It's Full of Stars" by Greg Walters. I just asked my personal GPT, "what is the overall message of the movie 2001: a space odyssey"? "2001: A Space Odyssey" spins a tale that stretches from the dawn of man to the far reaches of the cosmos. It's like watching humanity's entire technological journey unfold in a little over two hours. At its core, the film grapples with big ideas: evolution, artificial intelligence, and our place in the universe. Imagine humanity's tech journey as a long road trip. At first, we're just learning to walk, represented by the early humans discovering tools. Fast forward, and we're now cruising in the fast lane, with spaceships and AI. The film's iconic AI, HAL 9000, serves as a metaphor for the double-edged sword of technological advancement: incredible capabilities but with potential risks if our creations slip beyond our control. Kubrick doesn't just stop at questioning AI; he dives deep into the existential pool. The mysterious monoliths and the trippy journey through the star gate are like question marks about our understanding of the cosmos and our quest for meaning in a possibly indifferent universe. "2001" isn't just a sci-fi movie and the LLM is not simply a new gizmo. It's a reflection on humanity's ambition, the tools we build to reach our goals, and the philosophical ponderings these achievements stir. Kubrick challenges us to consider not just where we're going, but also why we're going there and what it means for our future. - End Quote. And there you have it. In the movie, the mysterious Monolith leads mankind to a new stages of evolution, from the pre ape-like existence, to a tool handling, brain expanding, war mongering, interstellar explorer, to more than the imagination. The first 180 seconds. The laborious rendition, "2001: A Space Odyssey" is not for the contemporary attention span. Indeed, the first three minutes are of a blank, black wide-screen accompanied by ethereal and nuance music - depicting a sideway Monolith? Audiences hated the movie. It is long enough to support an Intermission. It takes twenty minutes, forty seconds for the first line, "Here you are, sir. Main level, please." to be uttered. a single word is uttered by any of the actors - the audience is immediately tasked to try and understand, digest and interpret a brave, confusing, world. Like a new born fresh out of the canal. There are grunts and animalistic screams. After meeting a Monolith, our ancestors discover the power of tools to help harvest food - and kill each other. And just when the observer begins to settle and get a balanced perception, we see a leg boned twirl in midair, slowly up then down and BOOM. Without warning, without a foundation, we are transported into the year 2011ish, on board a space craft. The latest tool, for mankind. Strike up the Blue Danube. So it is with the present day, year old enlightenment that is artificial intelligence. We are, once again, as a human race, blasted into a new evolutionary wave and way. Like our evolutionary predecessors were depicted, a bunch of us scurry about, grunting, screaming and lamenting the falling sky while a few struggle to calibrate this new stage of existence, and surf the wave into a future full of Stars.
