By Greg Walters New Beginnings, Titan Homage The Cannes Film Festival, synonymous with opulence—yachts, Lamborghinis, and unimaginable expenses— is an award show. That's all. This year's soiree marks the end of an era: the final act in what was dubbed, back in the 70's, the New Hollywood. Lucas broke the seal with THX 1138 and Coppola, Apocalypse Now. It seems fitting that some in the business consider this Cannes 2024 a book end to the both careers - not the final chapter, just a nod to what once was. What Dreams May Come Ai is eating the world, and one of the main courses is Hollywood. The days of practical effects, are wanning. The era of magical invention, mystical light projection is morphing, once again. From stills, to radio, to silent movies, to talkies, black and white, color; from the stage, screen, to the palm of your hand - story telling, one of the most human of human conditions, Ai will propel visualizations beyond the stars and to the depths of the soul. Artificial Intelligence Replaces Copywrite and Soap Operas Luke, Laura and the Cassadines, fade to black. Ai writes scripts, software, like Unreal 5, creates sets via the QWERTY, and video apps generate 'fake' actors. The world is about to see things once strictly the realm of imagination - past visions restricted to the mind, will be unleashed. Still, visions in the fire, and stories shared, even with the latest gizmos, will remain 'human'; indeed artificial intelligence reveals more human than human strengths, weaknesses, tragedies and triumphs. The cheap imitations will fall victim to Ai, while truly creative beings, the top 3%, herald a kaleidoscope of flavors, projections and reflections Prometheus, Incarnate.
The Coppola's and Lucas's of the future are given unimaginable tools forged by the creators, and stolen from the story telling gods. Tomorrow's movie making eagles, like the Promethean pests, will revisit the legacies of Lucas and Coppola, continuously feeding their creative visions. Cannes 2024, marks the industries ascent into the future, while remembering the past. It seems fitting that some in the business consider this Cannes 2024 to be a book end to the both careers - not the final chapter, just a nod to what once was.
