Greg's words

Another week, another Ai high-pressure zone.

We're going to look at everything from how much energy it takes to generate an Ai image, to how the Pope regards artificial intelligence.

Jobs and corporate culture seem to go hand on hand - Ai is intensifying both the shift in occupations and the meaning of 'corporate culture'. For me, corporate culture is jus another form of a bad cult. Employees buy into it, like they do 'taco Tuesdays' and kegs in the lunchroom, exchanging their loyalty for missed recitals and cold dinners. The times are changing; the hierarchies are falling.

Roll in the fact that Ai increases productivity and the tech niche isn't confident about how to support Ai, and we've got an El Nino, Jet Stream event. Or is it an ELE?

Check out this weeks tidbits and have a great one.

What you will know after reading:
  1. The energy consumption of text generation compare to the kWh required for image creation in AI
  2. How the Pope feels about the development of artificial intelligence, particularly in light of concerns about potential exploitation by global technocratic systems.
  3. The ethical considerations arise, and how is the evolving role of AI in journalism prompting discussions about maintaining journalistic integrity?
  4. How can individuals bypass AI detection, and what insights are offered into this aspect, prompting a deeper examination of the challenges posed by evading AI systems?

techno-scientific advances, by making it possible to exercise hitherto unprecedented control over reality, are placing in human hands a vast array of options, including some that may pose a risk to our survival and endanger our common home."

The Pope and AI🕊️

The Pope, emphasizing the ambiguous nature of the term "artificial intelligence" and its application across diverse technological realms, urged leaders to discern the motives and objectives of AI developers. In a plea for ethical responsibility, he stressed that humanity faces threats to freedom and coexistence when driven by selfishness, profit-seeking, and power thirst.

Moreover, Pope Francis speculated on the potential exploitation of AI efficiencies by global "technocratic systems," highlighting the risk of obscured decision criteria, concealed responsibilities, and a neglect of obligations to the community. He pointedly noted the alliance between the economy and technology, cautioning against a myopic focus on efficiency at the expense of broader societal interests.

According to a recent analysis of the data published by ZD Net, the survey reveals that 81% believe IT is capable of supporting business at the required speed. "This technology goes the other way around — it’s a good sign," remarks Brynjolfsson, challenging the historical trend where digital technologies favored higher-skilled workers.

💼Generative AI boost can boost productivity without replacing workers

@Katia Savchuk explores a study that unveils the real-world impact of unleashing this technology at scale in workplaces.

The study, released as a National Bureau of Economic Research working paper, delivers promising news—employing AI tools led to not only more productive workers but also happier customers and increased employee retention.

🏀Rumor? Did Sports Illustrated Employee Fake Writers?

Sports Illustrated is facing accusations of publishing articles generated by artificial intelligence (AI) under fake author names. Tech publisher Futurism reported the issue after discovering author headshots on an AI-generated image website.

The Sports Illustrated Union expressed dismay, demanding adherence to basic journalistic standards. The publisher's owner, Arena Group, contested the report's accuracy but initiated an internal investigation. Arena Group licensed the content from Advon Commerce, a third-party company, and has severed ties with them after removing the content in response to the allegations.

The evolving role of AI in journalism continues to prompt ethical considerations and discussions about maintaining journalistic integrity.

It is unclear to me, if the writers employed by SI or sub-contracted copywrite was generated by the machine in the sky.

The content is absolutely AI-generated," asserts a second source, contradicting the magazine's denial. The veil of secrecy, however, begins to unravel as questions are raised. - Futurism
